UCAN students crowned U14’s Cheshire County Badminton Champions
Students from UCAN are off to a flying start in the Badminton National Schools’ Competition.
UCAN students qualified for this competition in November 2016 when they held off tough competition from local schools and went on to represent Vale Royal in the county stages.
The girls’ team worked hard showing excellent determination and finished second in their group, whilst the boys’ team went on to win their group and gained a well-deserved place in the final.
The boy’s team dazzled with their attacking net skills, allowing them to dominate in the final and win the overall competition to gain the county title.
UCAN’s U14 boys team have therefore qualified and will go through to compete in the next stage of the competition in the regional finals.
PE Teacher, Geraldine Lynch commented: “The students have worked hard developing their skills in our after school badminton club each week. This is a massive achievement and it is well deserved. We wish them luck in the next stage of the competition as they go to represent Cheshire in the regional finals.”
Member of the boys’ team, Jake Hartley commented: “I started playing badminton in Year 7 and I love it. To be part of the first ever team from UCAN to be crowned Cheshire Champions is very special.”
The U14’s Cheshire County Badminton Finals will go to represent Cheshire in the Regional Finals of the National School Badminton Competition on 25th February 2017.
