UCAN have kicked off the new year in style
UCAN have kicked off 2017 in style by hosting the ‘U12 Cheshire Indoor Football Finals’. Students from schools across Cheshire have come here to represent their district and to compete for the county title.
UCAN would like to congratulate ‘Great Sankey High School’ for winning the girls’ final and ‘Poynton High School’ for winning the boys’ final. Both tournaments were exciting to watch and demonstrated the high standard and talent across the county. We wish both teams good luck in the next round as they will go on to represent Cheshire in the regional finals.
The county finals are organised each year by John Clarke, (Cheshire FA Secretary of the England Schools Football) who gives a lot of time and effort to provide these opportunities for students. John ensures that the arrangements for the event and the officials are of a very high standard by having people like Trevor Massey, ex-Premier League Referee officiating the games.
One of UCAN’s up and coming football stars, Beth England in Year 11, came to the tournament to meet referee Trevor Massey to share a few minutes in a quick chat. Beth will be taking part in the Cheshire FA Referee Course next month. Trevor wished her luck, which was a great boost in confidence. Beth is a local club football player, she is also in the Cheshire Girl’s Football Development squad and she is hoping to move up through the ranks over the next few years. Beth has dreams and aspirations of one day representing her country. I for one, believe this is possible, said PE Teacher, Geraldine Lynch.
